Bai Lu Leads Modern Romance Drama “Kai Dao Tu Mi”

Bai Lu has officially begun filming a LP Webnovels new drama, her first drama since parting ways with the agency she spent a decade with. The drama, adapted from the novel The Last Blossom (开到荼蘼) by Yi Shu, is seen as a move away from the costume dramas that have defined much of her career. Directed by Li Muge, the series is set in the 1990s and follows Wang Yunna, a woman who is betrayed, imprisoned, and later transformed into a woman seeking revenge. Bai Lu is credited under her birth name, Bai Mengyan, sharing the lead with Hong Kong actress Samantha Ko and Chang Huasen. Peng Guanying, whose role is central to the heroine’s tragic story, is listed as a special star, even though his character is crucial to the story. Maggie Huang Mengying also joins the cast. Filming officially started in Foshan on July 24, 2026. Bai Lu will portray a dramatic change in appearance, from an innocent young woman with long black hair to a sharp, composed, and emotionally distant woman with short hair in the revenge arc. However, fans criticized Wang Yunna’s wig and clothing seen in behind-the-scenes photos and have been asking production to make adjustments. Nevertheless, the short hair is apparently staying, as it is part of the plot, though production has reportedly agreed to refine the hairstyle. In Kai Dao Tu Mi, the story follows Wang Yunna, who is deeply affected by a past relationship. Seven years later, she returns to her parents and meets Zuo Wensi, a rising star in the fashion world. The two eventually become engaged, but she quickly discovers that Zuo Wensi’s brother-in-law is her (former lover|ex-lover|previous lover}, Teng Haiqi. Apparently, the original novel combines suspense, melodrama, romance, and tragedy, and even features a murder as part of its darker storyline.
